Flights
The best way to get to Tübingen from the UK is by flying to Stuttgart. There’s direct flights from London Heathrow and Manchester available.
However, there’s also the option of flying to other airports which include Munich, Zurich, Basel and Frankfurt. This requires longer public transport to/ from Tübingen though.
(Also be aware to not land too late/ depart too early in order to leave time for getting to the airport etc.)
Transport
There is no definite need to hire a car for the wedding weekend. We have organised a shuttle bus from the church to the reception venue and back to Tübingen for Saturday 24th of May. There’s an airport bus every 30 mins between Tübingen and Stuttgart airport which takes just over an hour.
However, if people want to explore the surrounding towns, car hire is available from Stuttgart airport.
Accommodation
As all wedding events on that weekend (except for the reception on Saturday 24th May) will be in Tübingen, we recommend looking for accommodation in Tübingen rather than Stuttgart.
Airbnb
There are quite a few Airbnb’s available in Tübingen and they are definitely the more affordable option compared to hotels. Feel free to use the WhatsApp group to connect with other guests regarding sharing an Airbnb etc.
Hotel
There are a number of hotels in Tübingen, however, they’re fairly expensive.
“Hotel Domizil” (https://www.hotel-domizil.com/en/) has offered our guests a special price of 184€ per night for a double room and 135€ per night for a single room, both including breakfast. If you are interested in this, make sure to state our keyword “Hochzeit Elisa & Jonny Mansfield” when booking.
Travel tips
In case any of our British guests would like to make a bit of holiday out of the wedding weekend in Germany, here are some travel tips and recommendations for the south of Germany.
Black Forest
The black forest is a stunning national park with lots of pretty villages, great hikes & walks. It’s probably best to be based in/ around Freiburg as it is best to get to on public transport and you can fly in/ from Basel airport which is 1hr away by coach.
Lake of Constance
One of Elisa’s favourite places is the lake of Constance aka “Bodensee”. There’s loads of nice towns around the lake (such as Meersburg, Uhldingen, Insel Reichenau, Lindau, etc.) however, Konstanz is easiest to get to and best for day trips.
You can also get to Zurich airport from Konstanz by train within just over an hour.
Allgäu/ Alps
The Allgäu and the German Alps have always been a Figel family favourite and we got engaged in Oberstdorf! It’s a 3-4 hour train away from Tübingen and really worth a visit for anyone who loves the mountains, walks in nature and traditional “Bavarian” cuisine. Here, it is best to fly in/from Munich.
Switzerland/ France
With Tübingen being so close to the border of both France and Switzerland, towns close to the border are fairly “easy” to be reached by public transport (or car). Crowd favourites are Straßbourg (and Alsace in general), Zürich, Basel, Bern and more.
Pretty towns in Baden-Württemberg / Bavaria
Konstanz, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Ludwigsburg, Würzburg, Bamberg (and many more!)
